I just tried using the spray on plasti dip and I was pretty disappointed with the results. I should of known this before buying it, but even after shaking the can for several minutes it still comes out as a really fine spray rather than a nice thick layer lke when using a brush.

If you did mutiple layers over several days you could build up a good layer and it wears well but gorilla tape is far better. I'll still stick with pasti dip for covering stitching, etc.

Haven't you heard the rule that states ... you're not allowed to go up on another el cap route until you have produced the TR from your previous one :-)

Big Wall Forum / Totem Cam Question
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:33:18 am »
If you could only afford to buy two totem cams, would you buy the blue and yellow first?

I'm thinking mainly for pin scars.

Thanks.

Yes, the double dry.

I have  70m 9.5mm bluewater static that I like. 230 feet.

Does anyone have any experience with the Yates Slimline Elite 10.3mm rope?

I've been using the Mammut supersafe (10.5mm) up until now. The Mammut is almost 300 dollars.

The 10.3mm x 70m std Slimline Elite is $206.95, and the dry version $220.95.

Thanks.

If you have a hand hold that changes everything...

The steeper it is the more core strength is required and at some point I kind of think it isn't worth the effort. A bit like top stepping... I do it when I have to do to reach a placement, but wouldn't I think of doing it every time...  It just too much work.

It's much easier when you are lower in the aiders and this is where teeing off shines.

Top stepping and teeing off at the same time on vertical or overhanging terrain ... I don't personally believe that it can be done. I've practiced it a bunch of times and without a fifi keeping me tight, my balance point (center of gravity) is too low and I start to topple backwards.

Daniel,

Welcome to the forum.

I can help you out with question number 3 (the clean walls dvd). Shoot me an email and I'll send you it to view. You can send it back to me when you have finished. Teeing off is a great technique. It should be mainstream.

This number of people on this site is pretty low and we tend to help each other out. And there is very little BS.

Cheers

John

Triple check the weather forecast before you go ... Go with one pack. Lead in blocks. Take a down jacket and a pad to sit on. Take extra batteries. Treat it as a long day climb with an overnight bivy.

Great organized approach to the food. How did it work out? Was there enough variety?

I didn't see a stove? No Coffee for 12 days?

Thanks.

I paid 250 for my A5 double ledge, with standard fly. I had been up the Prow and looked brand new. I then brought an alpine fly for 100 dollars that still have the original price tags and labels on it. I think around 500 it would sell.

Evol shoes have come up with a new design that I would like to test at some stage. I have a pair of their old design but they are a little too big for me so I need to sell them on ebay.
