I wish Theron would start making hooks.  I would really like to have something in the 2 inch range that isn't as heavy as the Fish hook...

I carry them but don't use them very often, but when I do, they are usually the only piece that works. Places like inverted cracks under a roof in sandstone where you can't use a cam or cam hook are sometimes the only way to move forward when climbing clean.

like most gear, if you sell it, a few months down the road you will be wishing you hadn't.

I use an adjustable daisy to hang the ledge from. This really helps to dial in the exact height with the fly, ledge, etc. \

Thanks Mark!

I have an old pair of the evolve Maximus shoes that I pretty much think is ideal, other than the color. I put an old ski boot insole in them to stiffen them up a bit. You can stand all day on them and they are pretty good out of the slings as well.

They're a little bit too big for me so I might sell them and buy the new model when it goes on sale at some stage.

Big Wall Forum / Black Diamond Big Wall Gloves
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:32:21 pm »
I tend to go through my Metolius gloves very quickly. I probably only get at the most 20 pitches out of them. Metolius have been very kind to me in the past and have replaced them for me a couple of times. Generally the seems blown apart other than wearing out.

So, I'm thinking it is time for a change. Has anyone tried the Black Diamond big wall gloves?

I've tried home made ones, etc.

For full fingered gloves I love the mad rock big wall gloves, it's the half fingered ones I'm looking for right now.

Thanks.

I've bid on probably half a dozen of these over the last few years as my other fly is pretty damaged and held together with patches. I'm sure more will come up, just make sure you have an alert set up for "portaledge fly" or something similar. Good luck next time.

After several years trying I finally got my expedition fly for a steal on Ebay...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300741290864?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Can't believe it went at 105.00. Since I was budgeting quite a bit more I also just ordered a new Pika Hook as well!

So what is the best strategy to waterproof this sucker? The seams are not sealed.

Yes, I heard that he had made a new batch. It's just the 42 dollar price tag that has been holding me back, but I need to get one.

I was hoping that Moses would start making some hooks by now!

Thanks for the info.

I just use one locker as well, but sometimes I find it is a bit of hassle, especially if you have put the aider in first!

What is the strength rating on those quicklinks you are using?

Thanks.

Sorry, I"ve been away. I'll go and measure it and post it up later tonight.

It is in 5 sections.

Total length is 124 inches.

Hope that helps.

The pole doesn't attach to the ledge, but rather there are a couple of pockets in the fly that you hook it into.

Getting a new pole is easy. there are a bunch of places that will take care of this. It is only a tent pole.

Do you need the dimensions of the pole?

set up an agent on ebay to notify on the word "portaledge"

If I hear of one I'll let you know.

IMHO it is just too big. If you could test it and see how how it fitted and return it him if that was okay, maybe that would work. The thing about fly's is that if they don't fit perfectly you end up have material bunched in corners, etc. The fit should be snug. You also will need the pole as well.

I see lots of these fly's come up on Ebay, supertopo, mountain project, etc. so maybe post up a WTB ad on those sites as well.
