A5 snapshot in time (catalog related)
« on: September 13, 2010, 12:46:06 am »
Ok, so here's the story... I'm up at mtnyoung's house one weekend, and he says to me 'hey do you want these old climbing mags i'm going to toss or donate them?'  Sure do, I sez.  Amongst some relics like "Off Belay" and "The Climbing Art" old issues of Summit and Mountain, are some climbing gear manufacturer catalogs.

Lo and behold is our Deucey's A5 1989 "Catalog 2" in mint condition.  Score I sez today as I'm cleaning up the garage after a water heater issue from monday.  Lucky not to have water logged the lot of the mags.

At the back of the catalog is this gem of a piece of artwork...

Can you name the routes?

And this article from Jaybro near the front...

Did you know that A5 paid $50 per page for contributions back then!!!  That's good money. :)

Cool stuff. Illustrator McMillan set a nice tone for the brand (and era). It's cool that JM used him consistently.
Say no to limbers, excavators and retro-bolters. No matter how much he smiles.
