scored a verm hook
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:49:25 pm »
thx Steven.

such a different angle compared to my Tmoses.

less give in the metal too.

also looking at a cassin hook I got. like an 'enchanted hook' based on the angle and depth of the hook.

which verm hook you got?  I have 3, small medium and big.  I have had them on the last two routes and swear they made things so much easier...I am really loving them.  I would LOVE to get a second of each to do a little filing of the head width.

My friend just made a new hook out of a cliff hanger, he sawed it down, then bent it to have a small but drastic throw.  Pretty nice looking.

I think it's a medium. I seem to remember the big ones were really big.

flex vs. weight of the hook seems critical. Trying to decide if I like the flex.  Flex "gives" and might prevent shearing the flake and is lighter, but it is spooky getting on it.

Compare the cassins vs. the BD grappling as another example.

most of the time for me, I'm not on a wall, just trying to hang out long enough to hand drill at bolt on Pinnacles rock. Shearing is a real concern. Weight not so much on short pitches.

is it about the size of a grappling hook?

Those have very little flex, same with the smaller one.  The big one (about a 3" throw) has tons of flex.  boing boing!

Forrest made at least 6 different sized hooks at one time or another.
My mongo one is a #6, I had the whole set for a while. Good hooks.

This thread is worthless with out pictures!

I'd love to see the two side by side.

Is your new hook the thick version?

Hey T Moses,

When are you going to reproduce the Verm hooks? I was introduced to these bad boys just before they stopped making them and only got 1.
I do this for fun...

I need to update the "in the works" page.  #2 Tomahawks are done and #3's are being prototyped and field tested.

Big hooks are right after T3's.  No promises but possibly this fall.

Freight hooks?  You talking the haul bag hook or monster reach hook?

Sponsored climber?  I've got some very strict standards for that.  What makes you qualified? ;)

At gearheads over the weekend in Moab I saw a large variety of some huge hooks if anyone is looking for them. They also had the Kong Block Rolls as well. Kong has really improved the design. This current model is considerably lighter. It is no longer a boat anchor which was my issue before. The action is really nice on both the clamp and the pulley.

Unfortunately it comes with a 160 price tag. Id like to get one at some stage but it's hard to justify when I'm not going to use it soon.
