Half Dome Approach- Slabs or JM Trail?
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:04:47 pm »
Heading up to HD next week and wondering about the approach.  What is the consensus about getting ro the base? I heard the rock fall has affected the slabs.

I'd still head up the slabs. Maybe take a light load, scan it out. Many rockfalls have happened there. Some were Huge.

The slabs actually isn't too bad. More concentration required than just schlepping up the long way, but I know people who've done both and they prefer the slabs in the long run. Just make sure you have a general idea of where the fixed ropes ought to be and that may help.
