I like the way a good fat angle sounds in crumbly kitty litter placements.

Oh, and that smell......

Skully NAILS it!

Nailing, true nailing, climbing a whole 150 foot pitch and not placing a single nut, tied off pins, stacks, that was a riot, I loved it!
These days though, cams are too good to avoid using. And then there are hand placed beaks! Offset nuts are the balls too!

On the Mescalito in 1977, Max and I had the first set of RP nuts in the US at the time. We loved them (that was even before cams, kids).

Just today I was climbing with someone who was born the year I first climbed El Cap, he's 38.

When was your last good pin stack? A 3-pinner?

Nailing is more fun now because we don't get to do it as much. Which is fine with me. No more tapping than necessary. Hmm, necessary...

Mark, we're both quinquagenarians now. A fancy word for "old fucks." Rage on, young bucks.

Say no to limbers, excavators and retro-bolters. No matter how much he smiles.

Dang, my last stack, that was probably on the PO attempt in 78. The 5th pitch was still pretty hard back then, I think I did three or four stacks, just the tips were in the rock, and when I jerked up some slack, I seem to remember one or two of them simply falling out.
Dropped a rock on my finger a bit higher up so we retreated. This fall, with Max, on the South Seas, we'll come within a pitch and a half of where we bailed. In effect, we'll have climbed all the PO when we get done the SS. The PO is my longest lasting vendetta.
