Anybody currently make a wall gear sling worth a poop?
« on: September 08, 2011, 04:17:37 pm »
If I'd known how specialized wall gear was back when I was actively climbing, and how it wouldn't always be easily obtained, I would of gotten an A5 chest/gear rack.  But that was then, and they only rarely show up on flea bay.

I see yates has one, but it is both kinda spendy, and looks almost like too much of a good thing.  But I'm maybe overthinking it and its the bomb.  The metolius unit looks, ah, not quite up to the task.

I think Luke Malatesta with Runout Customs makes one. It's not on the website but the site is pretty new. He had this one on sale on MP a while back. I not 100% sure this one was made by Runout but I think it was.

I love my Yates, but I did try on a misty mountain a while back and it wasn't too bad. I'll stick to the Yates though...

Hey, Paul, you can have my old A5 if you want it. You might have to do a little work on it; add back the sub loops and maybe replace one piece of non-structural webbing on the back.
Say no to limbers, excavators and retro-bolters. No matter how much he smiles.

So far, three walls, my Yates is nice. You have to figure out a system with it but once you do, it's nice.

If you tag on lead, the Metolius is fine. Although, I wish they had the metal buckle from their big wall haul bag flap closure, or even their chalk bag belt, instead of the cheezy 3/4 inch plastic fastex sternum buckle. Otherwise it's bomber.

If you take more stuff or want more loops for racking, then Yates, Fish, Misty are the way to go. I like the FISH, but it only comes in one size. Currently I'm using a Yates one iteration before the current model for bigger loads. One problem I have with the sub gear loops that ride real high is that I feel like a retarded Tyrannosauras Rex when I'm trying to grab gear, even though they offer advantages for organization and testing, etc.
