Zion Routes - Suggestions?
« on: October 18, 2011, 03:50:50 pm »
Hey any of you out there who have spent some time in Zion.  I might be heading that way for a while and want some recommendations.  The trade routes are great, I am sure I will do some, but I want to do some other stuff too.  I especially want to do some nail ups while there.  Anyone have some suggestions on things you have done or would like to do?  I haven't been and need a few starting off points.

The Streaked Wall is really awesome if you are looking for a project - any of the routes on it are probably good, though I've only done Latitudes.

Also, years ago Rick Lovelace and I did Sands of Time on Isaac, which is pretty cool, except that it ends at the top of the pillar, and doesn't go to the top - we were out of time having sat out a snow storm.....

Say no to limbers, excavators and retro-bolters. No matter how much he smiles.

You could go to the Streaked Wall. Or the Court of The Patriarchs. There's actually some FA's to do if you look around. There are more Walls there than one would think.  I've only climbed a few trades, myself. Hope it's a grand outing.

Gagner,

Latitudes looks and sounds cool.  I was looking at that.  How many filed beaks do you think you need for that thing?

Hey Skully - Don't let the "cat" out of the bag re FA's:)

Hoipolli - Man, it was 16 or so years ago, so hard for me to remember.  But lots!!  You may want to ask Flyin' Brian McCray as he did it a few years back.  I'll look for a topo when I get back from the valley 11/1 - leaving tomorrow morning....

Have fun!!

Kristoffer will have the scoop on Latitudes since he solo'ed it a few years ago.

Eh, I guess I'm over it.  I don't wan't to file all my beaks.  I don't have a sandstone rack of quite the required proportions for that I think...

Unless anyone has some stuff I could borrow.... =) haha

I'll let Kris confirm, but I don't think he had any sawed beaks on Latitudes. How about tying off and/or using the "bird's eye?" All moot if you're not psyched...

I swear I remember someone telling me they had climbed Latitudes twice... probably getting a little whored out and gaping these days.

Matt M. is the bro who climbed latitudes twice... once alpine and the other camping style. i wouldnt imagine the route is getting all that whored out, that is only if people leave the angles at home and do there whoring with peckers and beaks.
i had  hand full of my beaks filed/mod and they were useful. hell there useful on any thin stuff in zion.
have fun on the pilot hole ladders that dominate the top of the wall.
good times :)

Holi, Red Awaking on Red Arch Mountain, Stigmata on Issac, South of Heaven on Angels Landing, don't need to mod gear for these routes. :)
