So what's happening?
« on: October 01, 2012, 11:12:22 pm »
Wallin, stallin, or big ballin?

I saw rock this last weekend, like many, I suspect.

Didn't see anyone I recognized down in the Flats. Had a nice hike up to Nevada Falls and back down the JMT. I hadn't done that hike back down the JMT since backing off of Half Dome Reg Route in the early nineties. Not sure how it went down exactly, but I remember hitting the bridge at the bathroom below Vernal in pitch black waiting for the rest of the team. Doing it in daylight is an entirely different experience. It's a somewhat improbable trail really. An amazing amount of stone had to be set for that trail. Not hardly anyone goes that way, yet it has superb views all the way up. Admittedly, it has horse crapples, so you take some good, with some bad.

So there's always Tom's report too.

This week in particular has been interesting.

Everyone seems to be getting on ok on the Cap otherwise.

Dave A. is on Reticent. Will be cool to hear the stories when back down.

Dig the story and pics of the soloist Alice too.  I've got Zod on the brain.

I short fixed the first 7 pitches before the sun hit us at 3pm.

When the sun hit us I was cooked so I let my buddy lead the Roof pitch and then I did the last to get us up before dark. We took 14hrs and I was on lead for 12 of them. Started at 5am summit at 7pm right at sunset. We were tanked so we suffer bivi'd on top. We were a team of 3 and it was both of my partners first wall. They rocked it!

Shortest Straw solo in a week if all goes as planned.

You staying in the valley right now, or you're back up North?  I may swing thru tomorrow late afternoon to see if those guys are still ok.
