Anybody else forming a plan?
« on: December 11, 2013, 09:13:59 am »
It's looking like a Half Dome mission is in the planning stage.....route shopping as we speak.....right side for sure. Probably July or August.
More as we deliberate and decide.

FA in the works with Mucci and Bosque. Like sands through an hourglass, these are the walls of our lives.

I'm going to steal one of the stable horses and have it carry my bags up the death slabs to the base.

It's been a long time, way too long. It'll be interesting to prep for a Wall while working a thousand miles from home.
Btw RockyIV, a horse won't make the slabs....there are 3 spots at least that would stop them cold. Naw, we'll hump it up under monkey power.

Zenith is regarded as the trade route, a la Zodiac twenty five years ago. Jet Stream has been climbed a bit. The rest seem to have not gotten more than a few ascents.

Mucci--If you hike up and look at those two, one will fall off your list real fast, lol. My friends repeated it and said it was full horror.

Isn't horror the very thing we seek?

getting a wall kit up to the base is the worst horror I can imagine. I'd still like to climb it though.

HAHAHA! The first pitch of The Big Chill sure does look like "full on horror"!

That wall is one of the most inspirational things I have ever seen.

Jesus, well then maybe not!

I guess the battle between loose flakes and gravity came through there.

What about promised land?

Any photos of the area you guys could share?

My buddies Josh Thompson and Dave Turner repeated Promised Land, Mucci. Sounded awesome! If you go to the base I think most people would appreciate Zenith most, and then White Room/Promised Land/Jet Stream. Its all good!

It's not that bad, Rocky....really.
Well, we'll just see what we see. More as it develops, as always. Thoughtful input is always welcome.

Hey Mucci! Let's get up there! I'm sure we can find some time between the FA and Native Son...

More importantly Munge, can you be bought into sharing the climb?

This area has that air of unrecognized potential. I would be in good company with the folks here.

Yes, something on that face interests me.

It's a hoof up there for sure.  Back in the mid-80's Troy Johnson and I climbed the FA of the first 4 pitches of what was to become Shadows.  The third, and especially the 4th pitch had more drilling than we were willing to do seeing how the cracks on the next few pitches seemed similarly closed.  We began calling the route The Big Drill, and bailed.  However, with all my shit already up there I decided to move it down a short distance to the base of the Porcelain Wall.  Bill Crouse and I then did the 2nd ascent of the Luminescent Wall, which incidentally is a pretty cool route with a killer location and rad top-out - you go from overhanging to a "reverse" slab in the opposite direction - kinda pain to haul, but hey....  I'd highly recommend the Porcelain Wall as an off-the-beaten path wall with a real cool aspect to it....

Starting to get the itch, but no partner for spring yet.  North American Wall is getting close to the top of my list.  It would be a step up in length over Zodiac and the Trip.  Also thinking that a trip up the Great Slab route with a crow bar might  be in order.  Still have to figure out what is going on with my work situation by time Sping rolls around.

Picked up some X4's and a new to me Haul bag that need to earn their keep...

Yes, a plan is in the works now as I type this. Just pounded out an hour long e-mail on the very topic. A certain Elcap route just eludes me, several starts and always a big problem. Got a "never been walling" partner under thirty go getter that talked me into doing it with him. Mentored him several years back, and he is perfect for such a mission. Score soon to be settled, or humbled to my very core. Either way, it is what I need.
