This year I turn 50. So 50 pitches on a big wall is my plan.

Already did Skull Queen (12) & Wet Denim (9). Looks like I need to climb something long on El Cap. We bailed off the Nose last year so that is my #1 obsession for now.

It may not happen though as I just had a little work done on my elbow. Im hoping I will be able to recover quickly.  It's been 11 days and I am going nuts.

Thanks to everyone here for keeping me sane and motivated.

Wes

Are there any routes on the captain that are easy to rap? Then you can climb a route, rap down and don't have to worry about the pain of descending and approaching again?

If not that then a porter is the way to go. Climb zodiac, porters help you down then hit something with a short approach like nose, triple direct, or muir.

Pete always raps Lurking Fear but that's always from Thanksgiving Ledge. I can't imagine that rapping with pigs would be any easier that hiking it down.
It's just money. Hire the porters, carry a small pack yourself and enjoy the walk! That's what I do!

oh, and I'm still interested in a certain backcountry choss wall.

If it would stop snowing, I might be able to get out there soon.

Beaks are amazing.  The whole shield headwall could be done on two peckers and a lot of balls.  When nuts or cams wouldn't work, beaks just slot right in there

Beaks have changed the game. 90% of head placements go as tipped beaks. Hand placing is bomber too; I've been using handplaced peckers even on my FAs.

Current lost brother solo FA is taking longer than I wanted, (features didn't show up to be hooked and seams on photos were closed more than open) so no el cap route for me until after summer, if then depending upon work (if I can find it)

Not without chiseling. I'd rather rivet than chisel a head

Some dickwad chiseled a head into a fully blank piece of rock, 12 inches away from a perfectly usable A3 crack on Reticent! Really WTF?

Congrats Mark!

Monkeys be sending!

Is it just me or does hard bigwall'n seem like a dying trend? Aside from Mark, and and our team...the only El Cap traffic was on the big 5. Nose, Zod, Shield, Salathe and Lurking Fear...aside from those free climbers who are another breed. I miss the days when monkey calls be heard amongst teams all over the SE Face. Peak season, splitter weather...mostly empty. El Cap seems lonely these days.

Guess most of the tribe are more into jumping off cliffs anymore.

I know! The SE Face was dead when we were on Reticent! There was one person on the Zod. I would yell "Let's go rock climbing!" in the morning and get not a single reply! Same deal on Albatross a weeks later!

Same issue when I was on tribal rite last sept. Monkey call out...... Nothing returned. I vaguely remember bitching about that on FB.

Well, at least one of the breed of wall climbers was too busy across the valley.

Coolest part of last week was yelling monkey calls from lost brother and Lambone telling me via FB messenger that they heard me. Alas I didn't hear their return hoots but I have a hearing loss so I'll blame that.

Lonely at night though, almost no headlamps on when the sun goes down. Might have to blame the full moon for that, but it does feel likes ghost town over there in elcapville

I'd just call it a lull in popularity. It's happened before and will again ..all good.
I don't expect to see many folk over at the Half Stone.
