Printing Topos from Yosemite Big Walls
« on: July 24, 2014, 09:38:27 am »
Does anyone have a trick when printing topos from the new guide book. The book is formatted with each page comprises of two guide book pages. I want each page to be a single page and fill the entire sheet of paper.

My work around is to take a screen grab of the page I want to print and then print that full size to letter or legal size paper.

But, I think I must be missing a setting in Adobe Acrobat that would allow me to view the book one page at a time, like supertopo allow.

Thanks.

There's no easy way because the "single" page setup for the Ebook has a page size of 14"x10" (due to the smaller-than-magazine size of the final print copy. if i'm not mistaken.)

Your workaround makes sense but there's another method within Adobe you can use:
1. Tools->Select&Zoom->Snapshot Tool
2. Draw a rectangle around the topo you want (this will turn the area blue on my computer)
3. Right-click the area you just selected and choose "print" from the dropdown menu
4. In the print dialogue box, make sure the following is selected (should be default selected anways) "Selected Graphic", "Page Scaling: Fit to Printable Area", etc
5. If you want to up the dpi of the print (for smaller topo sheets), "Advanced" button will allow you to go from 300dpi up to 600dpi. (Not sure if this will help because i'm not sure what the native dpi of the ebook is and don't want to bother to find out.)
6. Print.

Well, I guess that's actually pretty easy.

another workaround that's a bit more work is to crop the page you want to only show one topo, print that page, then undo the crop. This sounds stupid, but it works for some more random things you might want to do.

Lol, I just realized that I have multiple copies of the book on my computer. The pre-release Ebook I have is the one with two pages (and thus two topos) per "page". The final version has each page/topo in a single page format.

Check with Nanook to see which copy you have and that might sort everything out. Until then, the workaround above should suffice.

Thanks for your questions guys, sorry it has taken me a few to get back to you:

Very easy to change from two-page viewing to single page viewing. It is in Adobe Acrobat under View>Page Display. Then you can choose either Single Page display or Two Page display.

Woot!

Nanook,

What you suggested doesn't appear to work with my copy...

"Very easy to change from two-page viewing to single page viewing. It is in Adobe Acrobat under View>Page Display. Then you can choose either Single Page display or Two Page display"

When I make that change I go from 4 pages to 2 pages....

Is it the version of the PDF I'm using?

Thanks.

Sounds like you have the pre-release version of the ebook and Nanook probably didn't see my post about it.

To be clear, the pre-release version has two pages on each page so choosing view single versus view two-page will only give you either two or four pages on your screen.

Kevin you were right!

I was using a pre-release version of the book. The new file is called "The Complete Guide Ebook_2.27.14 2.pdf.

I can now view single pages!

Thanks.

Glad that got worked out - I didn't realize that the earlier book was only capable of being viewed in spreads, sorry.

Can you imagine how many pictures of ponies, Locker photoshopped as a rat, and anuses (ani) we'd have to wade through to get to the answer to this problem on any other forum? just saying.
