End of the season!! Trip reports?
« on: October 30, 2014, 07:00:49 pm »
This is the time when this board should be sounding off.

Did a trundlefest variation to Jericho this fall with Kev and Steve.  Big fun in the dirt and looseness.

Memorable times included:

2 big storms coming in during fixing.
1 Big ass fire that prompted retreat.
Placing a hanger that was stamped "pussy".  It's always a surprise, always demeaning.
1 full on mungefest pitch (worst pitch I have ever been apart of, every body got a turn leading it) With 15 feet of stacked jenga blocks to navigate
1 pitch that took 30 beaks.
Lowering a death block to the belay so we didn't kill Plaidman.
People on the Grack screaming at us to "stop throwing rocks!" After our response, the harassment from the gracksters stopped for the day.
Booty cam was found, except we were the only ones who have climbed there....it was a totem.

So What the hell has been going on?

HeyHep!

Oh dag nab it. (is that actually a phrase?) I planned to write up a full trip report, but time has gotten away from me. I'll get to it some time. Garbonzo/Moof and I made a clean lap up Mideast Crisis during "Heat Wave October 2014." (10/2 to 10/7)

Seriously--who cares about exposure when all you can think about is thirst and water?!?!?!  There we were in what's supposed to be prime Fall-weather big wall season. Envisioning cool, dry weather, I packed two puffy jackets and extra long underwear. Instead we're roasting in 85+ degree sun.

Mideast Crisis showed me what a "non" trade route looks like. Lots of two bolt anchors. Hardly any need for offset cams since there are no beat-out pin scar placements. So many overhanging, heavily traversing pitches. . . . it's a strenuous route both on lead and when following. Nothing too sketch on the route difficulty. But it was hard work plain and simple.

When we finished humping the haul bags down North Dome Gully, power had gone out in the Valley due to the unfortunate firefighter plane crash. There was no power to the Curry Village showers so we used headlamps and savored the last of the hot water. Temporary halogen lamps lit up the pizza deck. Thanks to the generators we got our traditional post-wall large pizza pie.

Crossed paths with Plaidman in the Ahwahnee parking lot---just before he embarked on the Jericho battle. Keep up the good fight Plaidman!!

Lots of two bolt anchors.

yeah, you gets used to that real quick. Then you get used to 1 bolt and 1 rivet anchors. Then you get used to 2 rivets and half driven arrows for an anchor and start to question whether climbing Horni-Johnson solo is a plus or a minus in the cost-benefit ratio.

Then you get used to 1 rivet, a tipped out beak, and a tied off frog.

Mucci can tell you all about messed up gear anchors on his routes on Liberty Cap. Hey MUCCI! Tell us a story!

I was working on a way I could do one each for my three El Cap routes this season. So far, I have a good story line for two of them.

Currently working on Blood and Coin solo, haven't started a Blue Collar TR yet, and not even thinking about Munge and Honey. Got to make an AAJ submission before anything else. Hard because all my time is being spent on job applications these days.

It's not much of a noteworthy climb as bigwalls go, but two of us went up to Cal dome last weekend and climbed Sands of Time with a light hualbag. We turned a grade III free climb into a two day ascent by bivying 6 pitches up on 12 o' clock ledge. We jugged with the bag some and hauled it some when it was easier and safe. The climbing was pretty awesome except for a bit of off-route scary loose blocks and flakes. A hot meal, scotch, and a smoke up on the bivy ledge was pretty awesome.

I tried to link a photo and it didn't work. Can I embed it straight off my computer? I tried embedding it from a link to where it is posted on mountainproject and that didn't work either. Any tips>

This un...

You have to have the image hosted somewhere that can reached publicly. Your personal PC won't work.

In this case, I embedded by right clicking on the smaller first image you see, then selecting "properties" in an IE browser and pasting the "URL" for it. But since mtn project appends a set of characters to the url, I had to truncate down to the file type.

e.g. removing the bold italic underlined part here... then embedding it between 'img' tags.
