2008 goals
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:50:25 am »
1. Accept the fact that I should just deal and stand in line this year. Valley approaches are so short.  But so is vacation time.

2. WFLT

3. TDA or Freak Show

4. Remote location FA wall

5. Not so remote location FA wall

these are so lofty goals, I hesitate to post them, but fuck it. It helps to write it down.

So far the list is:

1.  Tangerine Trip.  My partner in the fall for Tangerine trip pulled the plug on the second day, so now I gotta go back and send.

2.  Mideast Crisis.  A couple years back I went after Mideast Crisis and took a whipper at the start of pitch 5, ripping a big chunk out of my index finger's nail.  I'd already smashed the middle finger on that hand, so I bailed.  Redemption is needed.

The trip was also the first time I seriously tried short fixing, and boy can you move!  Definitely stoked to do much more short fixing down the road.

Other routes for "someday", but probably not this year:

1.  Zodiac.

2.  NA Wall

A solid two weeks in the Valley. This hopefully will include a couple of Grade V's or maybe one V and one VI.

Climb 100 pitches during 2008. The number is kind of arbitrary as I've never really kept track before so that number may be unrealistic or too easy. It sounded good though.

Lose 30-40lbs. I'm a big dude (245-255lbs. depending upon insulation needed) and add an aid rack and a couple ropes and this big walling crap is suddenly a lot of work. Well I guess it's a lot of work anyways, but I might as well not make it any harder than it needs to be.

Redpoint a 5.11
Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I fail. Sometimes I am too lazy to do either.

Get a rating above A2 under my name.
I used to live hanging under an A2 in my hammok.

Get my ass up  the Nose with my buddy Dave.  Last year we ran out of gas on top of Texas flake.

Help my good friend Mike achieve his goal of climbing in a new place every month.  1st stop El Portero Chico.

Make a 3rd and hopefully final attempt on Zen-Men to "knock the bastard off"

Do an El Cap route in a push.

Maybe break out of free climbing retirement.

Is that the top of the column?  Not a perspective I'm used to seeing.

An A-3+ here in Montana next month pending gear arrival.
An ElCap something in May(bringing free climbing rope gun this time), along with trying to follow Astroman. Possibly another short wall if I still have it left in me. Snake Dike, and some other cragging in the valley. Try to save some time to hit Zion or City of Rocks on way out. Only have three weeks to get her done.
  Bob
Edit- cannot forget Lost Arrow Spire as rope gun want to slack it.

I've been holding off on this thread, 'cause once I put it in writing...
Well nothing like getting called on the carpet.

Alright, here it is -
  • Climb Zodiac
  • Solo WFLT
  • Have sex on El Cap spire (a girl morons), along with climbing the Salathe'

Ya, so what if some of that is wishful thinking.
