I remember sitting in El Cap meadow when I was a kid, maybe '64 or '65. Sat out there and watched the show. In fact, this may be my earliest memory of Yose even though my family has pictures of it back to the 30s. It was 20 more years before I climbed Manure pile.

Ya, if I had a scanner I could dig some up and post'em. It could be that some have historical value (to someone).

Nice pic, KW.

Yea, we used to chuck shitbags, too. At least that didn't leave nasty streak visible from space. Good riddance.

Makes one wonder who came up with such a notion.......Can you imagine conditions of the base of THAT cliff?

my grandfather worked at the standard station in the valley back in the early 40's
and claimed to have been one of the guys whose job it was to push the firefall
off Glacier Point. I was never able to verify that but a good story none the less

Ive got some 8mm film of it with the parents pushing me around in a Stroller.
With bears a few feet away.
The Dump use to be right behind Curry so it attracted Bears for the Tourist.
Then at night you watched the Fire falls.
back in 65 or so.
