IME, other climbers are the biggest danger in speed hauling set ups. Who knows what other weirdness might incite an unforeseen event that could be a huge problem. I basically don't do it anymore. My cargo hook is gathering dust.

I've written the account numerous times of when a climber below me pulled my bag off its hook. His fifi hook broke at just the wrong time and he grabbed my bag in just the wrong spot. My fault for not recognizing the potential danger. Sometimes forgetting is good--I had forgotten to undo the backup, which saved me from being pulled off 15' of free climbing onto a ledge and beyond with the bag connected to me by 2mm perlon. I would have been seriously fucked up.

Say no to limbers, excavators and retro-bolters. No matter how much he smiles.

I agree that this is a dicey prop, and that the odds of the hook comming off the loop or the biner is slim.  Wow Mike that sounds very scary.  You got seriously lucky there.  I would not do this if a party were following me and if they were it would be very clear to not touch the bag or anything for  that matter.

I have only soled single pitches and if I did do a wall I would use this system of hooking the bag and hauling while on rappel, but I would definately do some practice set ups prior. I will look for the Slippery Pete knot set up.  Sounds interesting.
